JWMC Motoring Club with Llandudno MGOC – FBHVC Drive it Day 28th April 2019 – Ellesmere Port Boat Museum

Sunday 28th April 2019 was the Federation of British Historical Vehicle Clubs National Drive It Day event across the country.

First introduced in 2005, the format for Drive It Day is a tried and tested formula. The Federation sets the date each year (as close as possible to the anniversary of the 1000 Mile Trial) and publicises the event nationally. The many clubs that comprise the Federation’s membership then plan and schedule regional and local events throughout the country. The events are as varied as the vehicles taking part and include Drive Outs, Rallies, and meetings at local beauty spots or historic sites. Important venues such as The National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, Brooklands, The British Motor Museum, Gaydon and Bicester Heritage are expected to take part, but there will be scores of events the length and breadth of the country. What started as a few of us at John Woods Motorcare Ltd wanting to do our own little drive out turned into 20+ cars with 30+ people (customer and friends) going to Chocks Away Cafe at Hawarden Airport for a fantastic breakfast – we were hosted in the ‘Red Arrows’ themed room and the service from the staff and the breakfasts from the Chef could not be faulted.

From Chocks away, we all headed up to the National Waterways Museum Ellesmere Port where we’d worked with the events coordinator and arranged for the Classic Cars to be parked on display inside the Museum grounds.

Llandudno MG Owners Club (LMGOC) members joined us at the Boat Museum after their morning run out in North Wales. LMGOC parked on the other side of the Boat Museum next to the Porter’s Row cottages (we also parked the more modern vehicles that were out with JWMC Motoring Club on that part of the grounds).

We also had a Birthday to celebrate on the day, Eric Egertons Hillman Minx was 60 years old on Sunday 28th April 2019. As a special surprise for Eric we had a banner and some cakes produced.

At 2pm everyone gathered around the car (we didn’t sing Happy Birthday though) and Eric was presented with a Cake to take home for his family to enjoy and then all people who’d attended the event had a slice of the larger cake!

’46HTJ’ has been owned by Erics family for the majority of it’s 60 years. It was a dealer demonstrator vehicle for a few months prior to being purchased by Erics father in law who then passed it onto Eric to cherish.

The weather held out and all in all everyone has responded to say that they had a thoroughly enjoyable breakfast and day at the Boat Museum.
