In 2013 after joining the Classic Friendly Ltd scheme we decided that we would hold an Open Day.

March was picked as this was around one month before the Classic Car Show Season started and we thought it would be an ideal opportunity for Classic Car owners to get the cars out of the garage where they’d been stored over winter, blow off the cobwebs and give them a test run out to John Woods Motorcare Ltd before the official show season starts.

Fuzz Townshend offered to come to support us on the first open day and he has attended each year since. In 2017 Fuzz came with Simon Downing who has joined the Classic Friendly Ltd Team – Simon drove a Classic Triumph up from Shropshire which promptly overheated and broke down right outside the front entrance of John Woods Motorcare Building!

Other businesses based on site were contacted and they all agreed we could utilise their business car parking allocation on the day. We chose a Sunday because all businesses on site were closed or minimal staffed. Clubs that have attended and displayed on site on our open days include:-

(No particular order)

MG WorldWide (Midlands Marauders), Gay Classic Car Group, Deva & Wirral Motor Club, Llandudno MG Owners Club, MG635 Register, Potteries and Cheshire, Anglia Owners Club, MG’s ‘Off The Wall’ (North), MG Car Club, MG Owners Club, Cestrian Motoring Enthusiasts Group, M6 J16 Club… and many more.

For open days held at our old premises in Mollington, Chester we specifically invited local clubs to display between 5 and 12 cars in plots located around the site, all carefully planned by the JWMC team. On average each year there has been 150+ Classic Cars attending with over 300 people walking around the site admiring everyones pride and joy.

2018 will see the first Open Day at our new Mold Premises, we are still working out the best way to display cars on site as it is not as ‘open’ as our old site.
