Inspectmyclassic site is now GDPR compliant with SSL Certificatification and ‘Green ‘ SSL Padlock status.

We’ve all not been able to escape it… General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

As a business we have been inundated with emails from everywhere requesting that we opt in, opt out, update our preferences etc etc. Ironically, if, in the past,  you’ve already opted in and accepted a businesses Terms, Conditions and Privacy Policy  –  which would have been done if you’d submitted data previously or made a purchase/created an account with through an online shopping cart – then most of these emails being sent out by businesses are actually not really required.

In a way, receiving all of these emails over the past few weeks is a good thing as we were able to pick and choose whether we wanted to continue receiving emails from various companies and websites we’d dealt with over the past years.

In light of the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which will take effect from today, 25 May 2018, here at John Woods Motorcare Ltd we’ve also been updating our systems to be GDPR compliant. Luckily the new main website of was easy to sort out for GDPR, one or two WordPress plugins installed and hey presto, we were compliant. Additionally, in order to comply with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we have also revised our privacy policyThe content remains much the same as before, however, we’ve restructured the policy to make it clearer and more transparent.

Via the Privacy Policy there is now an option for a Data Access Request . When requested, an email will be sent to your registered email address and that link will show what information is held and allow you to submit a further to ‘anonymise’ your data on our Database. All data held by our database relates to your Shopping Cart account and any orders you have placed.

The other issue that we’ve been working towards solving was Googles decision to flag (through Google Chrome) all non SSL based websites as “Not Secure”. SSL or Secure Sockets Layer is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral.

We worked with our hosting company to purchase and install an SSL Certificate and then spent a few hours updating all parts of the website to ensure that all internal and external links were changed from http:// to https://  to utilise the SSL Certificate – once we were satisfied that everything worked ok we submitted the website to Qualys SSL Labs and for interrogation.

We have not had to the GDPR updates or SSL installation with our or .net websites as they do not collect or store any customer information.

The website is now fully varified and showing the correct ‘Green’ safe padlock symbol.

We will be conducting periodic (Monthly) scans via to ensure that we retain the ‘Secure Connection’ status of the website.

The Secure Seal will appear at the bottom of the Checkout Page under the GDPR Notifications
